[29 Oct 2013] The Swedish Higher Education Authority has presented the results from the evaluation of 360 educational programmes within technology and engineering, which is the most comprehensive evaluation for this area ever in Sweden. The programmes at the IT Faculty, University of Gothenburg, got high scores in the evaluation.
[28 Oct 2013] In June this year a severe and unexpected loss struck the Software Engineering division when Lars Pareto - an influential member of the group for a long time - suddenly passed away. A couple of weeks earlier it was decided that Lars Pareto was to be awarded the IT Faculty Pedagogical Prize for 2013. During the university's conferment ceremony on October 25, the prize was posthumously awarded to Lars Pareto.
[14 Aug 2013] The Kurzweil Prize for Best AGI Paper is given to the paper of the highest overall quality. The prize goes to the paper "Computational Versions of Kolmogorov Complexity Based on Cognitive Models" by Claes Strannegård and Abdul Rahim Nizamani from the Department of Applied IT together with Anders Sjöberg and Fredrik Engström.
[16 Jul 2013] Students using cellphone in school has been a controversial matter for several years. The technology is sometimes singled out as one of the reasons for the apparently decreasing quality of Swedish elementary school education.
[16 Jul 2013] Professors Bo Dahlbom and Lars Mathiassen published a book called Computers in Context in 1993. The book, which explores the relationship between humans and computer systems, had a great impact among students of informatics.
